Student Medical Insurance
Part of the mission at Carlow University is to involve students in a process of self-directed, lifelong learning which will free them to think clearly and creatively. Good health and access to adequate medical care is an essential component of a student’s academic success and is essential for the continuance of the lifelong learning process.
In keeping with the mission, Carlow University has adopted a hard waiver policy regarding medical insurance for its students. All full-time and part-time undergraduate students attending Carlow University are required to have insurance while in attendance at the University. This policy ensures that every full-time student has the ability to access appropriate medical attention necessary for successful completion of their studies.

What are the benefits of a hard waiver policy?
- Students who need medical care can afford to receive it.
- Students with health insurance can be best served by the Health Center or the Counseling Center if the need for a referral arises.
- Access to adequate medical care can deter the spread of communicable diseases to ensure the academic career of all Carlow students.
The University offers health insurance through Highmark and has contracted a dedicated satellite student insurance department with Hulse/QM®. If you already have medical insurance comparable to the Highmark Standard Option plan, and you wish not to be enrolled in the school’s medical insurance plan, you must submit proof of your insurance to the student insurance administrators by the appropriate date. All undergraduate students who do not respond will be automatically enrolled and subsequently billed for the student insurance plan.
